Slavko Koscevic

Koscevic, Slavko, P. Eng. (b. Oct 4, 1928) of Elliot Lake, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 23, 2017, at St. Joseph’s General Hospital. Slavko survives in the hearts of his loving wife Erna, daughter Nevenka (son-in-law David) of Montreal, sister Ana Zidaric and family, the Koscevic family in his birth place of Brezovljani, Croatia, and the Znidarec family of Winnipeg and Montreal.
Slavko pursued a remarkable career as mining engineer. This began in his homeland of Croatia where he earned a degree in engineering at the University of Zagreb. He worked in Croatia and Bosnia until 1969, when he emigrated with his family to Canada, first working in Winnipeg, then with Sherritt-Gordon in Leaf Rapids, Manitoba, then with Newfoundland Department of Labour in Wabush, Labrador, and eventually in his last professional role as District Mining Engineer with the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Mining Health & Safety Branch, from which he retired in 1993. He and Erna have lived in Elliot Lake since 1981.
Whether for involvement in the mining community, dedicated participation in the Elliot Lake Rod & Gun Club, work with the Serpent River Regional Environmental Association, passionate vegetable gardening, or other pursuits, Slavko will be remembered for his professionalism, curiosity, friendliness, and gentlemanly manner.
Slavko’s family extends sincere thanks to the medical community, especially Drs. Wannan and Long, and the excellent staff of St. Joseph’s. Special thanks go to Dubravka Polak, Denice Miron, Ted Martin, and volunteers of the Elliot Lake Palliative Care Program for their compassionate care of Slavko and his family.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11 am from the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). Deacon Joseph O’Neill officiating. Cremation to follow. Donations in his memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
