Donald (Don) St. Pierre

Feb 18,2017, another life was taken by cancer. Don St. Pierre, 66 years of age succumbed to lung and brain cancer at St Joseph’s Hospital, Elliot Lake, Ontario, with Sharon by his side.
It had been a rough year for Don. Just over a year ago, he almost lost his leg to a blood clot. While on the mend, he found out that he had both brain cancer and lung cancer. Determined to beat the odds, Don underwent radiation and chemotherapy treatment fighting to stay with his family.
Don was born in Quebec and moved to Ontario with his parents Georges and Jacqueline St. Pierre, growing up in Manitouwadge.
Don was a mechanic at Rio Algom, in Elliot Lake for almost 20 years. After the mines shut down, Don decided he wanted to assist the community and opened STP Healthcare Services. Here he found his passion to serve the community using his mechanical skills to sell/fix wheelchairs, and various assistive devices. Don serviced Elliot Lake and the Northshore for another 20 years taking care of his customers and creating friendships with others. Some customers have received curbside service when their wheelchair ran out of steam and needed a boost and a ride back home.
Don had a passion for the outdoors, including fishing, camping and walking in the woods, especially with his dogs Kema and Trixie. Not being great at one particular thing, he enjoyed many things including Aviation. Aviation peaked his interest so much so that he would often sit at the end of the Toronto Airport runway and wait for planes to finish their decent. Don quite often mentioned he could feel the heat and reverse thrust from the jets.
Early to bed and early to rise was Don’s creed, which always lead to fresh Timmies waiting for you in the morning.
Don leaves behind his wife, Sharon, daughter Denise St. Pierre, Dave (Linda) Tresidder, Brian (Kim ) Tresidder and his grandchildren, Patrick, Brandon, Cassie, Grace, George, Max and Ella, as well as his siblings, Jan, Solange, Lise, Marcelle and Maurice. Predeceased by his parents Georges and Jacqueline as well his brother Henri. Kema and Trixie his furry friends will miss their late night treats and someone to cuddle up against.
A special thanks goes out to his nephew Dr Michael Stirling for his outstanding care and assistance with navigating the medical world. Special thank you to Dr Chris Prescott and Dr Michael Britton-Foster for the compassion they provided during confusing times. A debt of gratitude to Joanne Blanchette, RN. for her exemplary bedside manner. Clinton Barry, RN, Cancer Treatment Center for his assistance and care dealing with those suffering from cancer.
A special note of love to the best care givers family can ask for, the Purss sisters-in-law, Elaine Lafreniere, Pat Stirling and Carole Prodan.
