BROWN, Douglas Alexander (January 31st 1937 - December 22nd 2016)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Alexander Brown in his 80th year. Loving husband to Margerie (nee Fritz) of 59 years and son to Gordon (Lorraine née Edmiston), both predeceased. Survived by his children Michael(Louise McLean) of Elliot Lake ON, Danny of Sudbury ON, Pamela(Wayne Zammit) of Onaping ON and daughter Patricia Lynn (predeceased). Loving grandfather to Mélanie McLean(Jesse Robitaille), Vicky(Jason Desrochers), Lyndsey (Roger Hollands), Dustin Zammit, Carley Zammit & Katie Lynn Zammit (predeceased). Great-grand-father to Véronique, Arianne & Amélie Robitaille, Cameron & Kaitlyn Desrochers, Hayden Quinn & Olivia Hollands.
Douglas will be lovingly remembered as older brother to Sandra(John Sutherland) of Kincardine ON, Susan(Terry Patterson) of Windsor ON, Dale(Helen) of Kelowna BC, Dana(Brian Thompson) of Elliot Lake ON and Steven(predeceased). Douglas will also be fondly remembered by his wife's family, the Fritz's; Jim and Barb, Don and Marie, Bryon(Marilyn-predeceased) and Richard. Douglas will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Doug was born and raised in Kincardine and returned to visit at every opportunity. Long time resident of Elliot Lake for 61 years, he was employed by Rio Algom Mines for 37 years working as a pipefitter, tinsmith along with numerous other jobs. After retirement, Doug spent numerous hours in his workshop where he enjoyed the fine art of carpentry. Doug was also an avid sportsfan. He enjoyed playing fastball, hockey, golf & curling.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff at St. Joseph's Manor and Huron Lodge in Elliot Lake for the kind & compassionate care they provided to our father during his residence there. Deepest gratitude to Dr. Spencer for his genuine care and concern for our father during his residence at St. Joseph's Manor and in the final moments of our father's life.
Thank you is also extended to doctors and nurses at St. Joseph's General Hospital for the many visits over the last few years. We would also like to thank Dr. DeBortoli for the care he provided to our father prior to his residence at The Manor.
Donations in Douglas Brown's memory can be made to St. Joseph's Manor, Elliot Lake Palliative Care, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Terry Fox Foundation.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial wake will take place on January 6th, 2017 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave., Elliot Lake, ON). Funeral will take place Saturday January 7th, 2017 at 2pm at the United Church of Elliot Lake, 40 Hillside Dr. N. Internment to follow in the spring.
